Ubisoft announces that ‘gaming’s worst-kept secret’ will finally be revealed later this week

Publishers don’t like leaks. But sometimes things leak so much, so badly, that all they can do is roll with it, and I give full credit to Ubisoft for being good sports about the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake, which the publisher said today will be properly revealed to the world on April 23—along with an admission that it is indeed “gaming’s worst-kept secret.”

“We know you know, but how about we tell you some more now?” Ubisoft wrote in a Bluesky announcement of the upcoming “Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced’s worldwide reveal showcase,” set for 9 am PT/12 PM ET/5 pm UK on April 23. And in case that’s too subtle, the little video clip attached to the announcement puts it in simple words:

We know you know, but how about we tell you some more now? Tune in for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced’s Worldwide Reveal Showcase on April 23rd at 4PM UTC – 6PM CEST – 9AM PDT. youtu.be/7hkFaTypP1Q

It’s quite a turnabout for Ubisoft, which in August 2025 threatened to sue voice actor Matt Ryan for blabbing—because yeah, Ubisoft wasn’t always quite so cool about the whole thing. It may have been prompted to fly the white flag over Black Flag by the persistence of subsequent leaks, which left the whole thing looking like HMS Surprise after its first encounter with the Acheron.

Whatever the reason, by January of this year Ubisoft was posting memes in reaction to new leaks, even though it didn’t officially confirm that Black Flag was real until March, when it dropped the “4” and added “Resynced.”

It’s kind of too bad that those good times are over, but I’m sure Ubisoft will be glad to finally have this thing out in the open. The Assassin’s Creed Black Flag reveal showcase will be streamed on YouTube and Twitch.
