Tracking down salt in Subnautica 2 can be a little tricky, which is frustrating, since it’s a vital ingredient in the Power Cell that you’ll need to craft to build a Tadpole vehicle. This mini-sub is vital for further exploration of the alien ocean, so until you find salt, you ain’t going far. Well, you might try to go far, but you’ll likely get chomped by some abyssal horror you can’t outrun.
You can also use salt to craft delicious jerky, though this seems like a waste to me considering it replenishes the same hunger as regular food, and grub doesn’t seem to spoil in Subnautica 2. Either way, here’s how to get the salt you need.
Subnautica 2 salt location
The easiest place to find salt early on is in a cave roughly 200 meters to the southeast of the Lifepod. This is right by where Chap’s black box is, which NOA will send you to find after you recover Anita’s one. To get here:
Head exactly southeast from the Lifepod, past the Welcome Center on the right and down into the area with the two pillars and the giant Coral Crab on the leftTo your right, you’ll spot a pillar with a standing light in front of it—head to the base of the pillar where you’ll find an entrance to a small cave
Chap’s habitat is down here, along with his black box, but there are also two pieces of salt to collect in the cave itself. Salt is easy to recognise, since it basically looks like a ball of light orange squares, as if someone mashed a bag of crisps into a sphere. This salt also respawns over time, so you can collect it again.

While this should fulfil your early needs, you can also find salt in the volcanic vent area to the far east of the Lifepod, or in the deeper area around The Great Jaw to the southwest. It’ll either be on the ground, or I’ve found it inside caves in the volcanic region. If you do head here, though, you’ll have to unlock the Heat Tolerance adaptation first to survive.
