Once Human: How to Set Up Water Pumps

Learn how to set up water pumps in Once Human and secure water resources and crude oil for personal use or trade.

In Once Human, water is more than just a way to stay hydrated. It’s a crucial resource for cooking unique dishes, growing your Deviated Crops, and crafting essential compounds like acid. While gathering water from rivers, lakes, or seas is straightforward, it can be time-consuming and adds significant weight to your inventory, making the return trip to your base a challenging experience.

Fortunately, Once Human added Water Pumps into their production facility to lighten up your workload and free you from the tedious process of collecting water.

How to Set Up Water Pumps in Once Human

There are two types of Water Pumps in Once Human: One is an Extractor, a large and bulky device with four-leg support that is designed to efficiently draw water from deep sources. The second is the Small Water Pump, a more compact option featuring an inlet and outlet primarily used for transferring liquids between containers. This is particularly useful for moving water uphill.

To set up the water pump, do the following:

Enter Build Mode (Default: B)

Build the Water Pump (Extractor) on the ground.

Build a Water Tank to store the liquid.

Build a Generator

Connect the Water Pump (Extractor) to the Generator by attaching a wire (Default: X).

Attach a pipe from the Water Pump (Extractor) to the Water Tank (Default: V).

If your Water Tank, Water Filter, or Purifier is at a higher elevation than your Extractor, you’ll need a Small Water Pump. Otherwise, the water going through the Pipe will flow back.

To set up the water pump for elevated storage or facility, do the following:

Enter Build Mode (Default: B).

Build the Small Water Pump (It can only be installed on walls or pillars).

Connect it to a Generator (Default: X).

Attach a pipe from the Water Pump (Extractor) to the Water Tank.

Attach a pipe from the Water Tank to the Small Water Pump.

Attach a pipe from the Small Water Pump to the elevated Water Tank or other elevated Production Facility.

Note: By looking at the pipe in Build Mode, you can tell which direction the water flows.

How to Extract Dirty Water

You can only get Purified Water by filtering or purifying Dirty Water. Fortunately, it’s easy to extract Dirty Water in Once Human. Locate a water source like a river or lake, and build your base nearby. Next, install your Water Pump either directly in the water or on the soil close to it.

How to Extract Barreled Crude Oil

In Once Human, Barrel Crude Oil is a key resource for producing Portable Mixed Fuel, which you can create at a refining facility. Crude Oil can only be extracted near Blackfell, particularly in the Red Sands and Blackheart regions.

Note: When setting up your extraction process, build your Water Pump on Polluted-Free Sand and away from any water source. If placed incorrectly, you risk pumping unwanted liquids instead of Crude Oil.

How to Extract Polluted Water

Polluted Water is a crucial ingredient for crafting Impure Acid, which is further refined into Acid. You can only extract Polluted Water in the Stardust-polluted areas of Nalcott in Once Human. To find these areas, look for patches of black ground on the map, as they indicate Stardust pollution.

Note: Playing with Friends gives you an advantage. You can assign each to a different region and terrain to install Water Pumps and extract various kinds of liquids, maximizing the production output without the need to transfer your base.

Conclusion

There you have it! Polluted and Dirty Water is automatically transferred to the Water Tank via pipes, making resource management easier. However, this convenience doesn’t apply to Crude Oil. You must manually remove Crude Oil from the Water Pumps and then transport it to the refining facility or storage.
