Nuclear Submarines. Cramped, covert vehicles often housing over 100 sailors, sneakily voyaging around the world. Crews can be underwater for months at a time, away from their families, getting no sunlight, and barely communicating with the outside world. But somehow, gamers will still find a way to leak the location of one on Reddit. Allegedly.
No, this isn’t about War Thunder. I know, I was surprised too, because that’s usually the game of choice for people who want to spread declassified military information. This time, a player posted a photo of their laptop with Crusader Kings 3 booted up to the r/navy subreddit alongside the caption: “First person to play CK3 on a submarine?”
The post was swiftly removed and the associated Reddit account has been deleted, so we’ve only got screenshots and secondhand accounts to piece the event together. Apparently, the photo’s metadata contained a location, which would be a big no-no if the OP was indeed on a military submarine. It’s not even clear if it is indeed a nuclear submarine, as non-nuclear subs are still present within a lot of naval fleets. People on X and Reddit are going with the nuclear option, though.
Under a screenshot of the Reddit post posted on X, people are arguing if a phone could even collect GPS location data if it were underwater on a submarine. The truth is I have no idea, but I’d assume if you can connect to the internet, your location can be determined somehow. “The Hunt for Reddit October” is my personal favourite reply among a sea of conflicting opinions on how nuclear submarines work.
If you were curious, this is the picture he posted. pic.twitter.com/zn4XSQvwUCJanuary 22, 2026
There’s also a great post on the Crusader Kings subreddit, editing a Simpsons meme to fit the current situation. Like I said above, we’re all surprised this wasn’t another War Thunder leak.
